The editors of a forthcoming volume are seeking concise essays of approximately 5,000 words about any aspect of Star Wars storytelling that has emerged since Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm in 2012. We are seeking pieces that are academically rigorous, but accessible to the general reader.
The volume aims to cover the full range of transmedia forms that now comprise the Star Wars shared universe. We are particularly interested in essays analyzing media beyond the sequel trilogy, including not only the anthology films and television series, but also novels, comics, video games, toys and other collectibles, and theme park experiences. We welcome essays treating Star Wars through the lens of any current theoretical or methodological approach, though we particularly welcome essays the fields of digital humanities, disability studies, ecocriticism and animal studies, fan studies, gender studies and queer theory, postcolonialism, and transmedia theory.
Prospective contributors should send a 250–500 word abstract in either Microsoft Word or Apple Pages format to Douglas Brode dougbrode@msn.com and Cyrus R. K. Patell cp1@nyu.edu by 15 March 2022. First drafts of papers accepted for inclusion in the volume will be due by 15 August 2022; final, revised drafts by 15 October 2022.
